About Us
People’s Pantry was started as a response to a study of food insecurity in the City of Moonee Valley conducted by Deakin University in 2009.
The Peoples Pantry is a registered, tax deductible, ACNC charity (Essendon Baptist Community Ministries) which works in partnership with Foodbank Victoria and Second Bite.
A diverse group of local volunteers experiencing un/under-employment order, collect and redistribute 1 to 1.5 tonnes of food to approximately 120 households each Tuesday and Wednesday, (February-Christmas).
We partner with other agencies to provide volunteer work for asylum seekers; people experiencing mental illness or intellectual disability; and/ or un/der-employment.
We exist to redeem waste, share food, create good work, dispel loneliness, reconnect neighbours, celebrate faith and difference and subvert the status quo!
We operated as a multi-faith, multi-cultural program who seek to build community connections by initiating and supporting various local food initiatives.
